In my search for shoes, I was after 3 things:
- comfort: open toe (no squished toes for me)
- height: I am only 5'1 and wanted as much height as possible to save on dress alteration costs 😅
- objectively cute: I didn't want anything that solely looked like a wedding shoe. I always prefer heeled sandal styles over any other for comfort and look.
These were everything I was looking for and I'm so happy these were the shoes I chose. Notably, our wedding was a little different in that we actually eloped with a close friend each and my mum and sister. We are both neurodivergent and realised the idea of having such an intimate moment in front of even the 50 people on our initial guest list just wasn't "us". We wanted to feel entirely present in that moment, and entirely ourselves; but we also wanted to include everyone we love.
My creative solution was to essentially have the best of both - we booked a dog-friendly air-bnb on the Peninsula (Victoria, Australia), invited our closest people to stay with us, and got married on a beachside cliff at sunset with our photographers, a celebrant (who was also a family member), and a videographer recording the whole story on super-8.
1 month later, we had what everyone else thought was the wedding day - we had a summer garden party at my mums' house with a pizza van, gelato cart and all the whimsical lights you could ask for.
